This vintage-style "hippie weave" jacquard guitar strap became iconic in the 1960s and '70s, made famous by now-defunct companies and often referred to as the "Hendrix" strap. Alongside other legendary bohemian designs, this strap was reportedly worn by the man himself—a true classic! However, the original designs, and even many modern reissues, feature stamped leather end tabs that tend to stretch and wear out quickly.
Our take on this classic red pattern is a reissue of the original American Classic, assembled with care in our California Workshop. We craft each strap by sewing the jacquard weave onto recycled seat belt material, finishing with our streamlined end tabs and hand-tooled stainless steel rivets for added durability. Hippie Weave Care Guide
Our Hippie Weave straps combine a woven jacquard pattern with recycled seatbelt webbing and the same vinyl end tabs as the rest of our line — a little different from our all-vinyl straps, so here’s how to keep the weave looking sharp.
Caring for the Weave
- Spot clean only. The jacquard pattern is a woven textile, not solid vinyl — a barely damp cloth on a stain is safer than soaking it.
- Skip harsh detergents and bleach — they can pull color out of the dyed threads over time.
- Don’t tug a loose thread. If one snags, trim it close with scissors instead of pulling, so the weave doesn’t unravel.
- Air dry, away from direct heat, if it does get wet — keep it out of the dryer.
The Seatbelt Backing & Vinyl Tabs
- The seatbelt webbing backing is tough, durable synthetic webbing — a wipe-down is really all it needs.
- The end tabs are the same vinyl as every other Couch strap. Wipe clean with a damp cloth — no leather conditioners or saddle soap needed, since there’s no leather anywhere on it.
Know Your Guitar’s Finish
- Poly / polyurethane finish (most modern, factory-made guitars): totally fine — no precautions needed.
- Nitro-cellulose lacquer finish (vintage instruments, custom shop builds, some higher-end Gibsons): case it up when not playing, and keep sweat, cologne, and alcohol away.
It’s the vinyl end tabs that ever touch the guitar, same as the rest of our line, so the same finish guidance applies here.
